For many with epilepsy, medication is an essential part of treatment. These medications are sometimes called anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) or anti-seizure drugs.

Taking medication regularly – on time and as prescribed – is crucial to controlling one’s seizures. For our patients, who are often uninsured, sometimes getting ahold of their medication can be challenging. That is why at EFCST, we provide emergency medication assistance and help enroll our patients in medication assistance programs (MAPs).

Sometimes, our patients find themselves in exceptional circumstances and do not have the medication they need. One or two missed doses could lead to a severe seizure and derail the patient’s entire treatment plan – this is where we come in.

Our emergency medication assistance program will provide a 30-day supply of an individual’s anti-seizure medications at no cost to the patient. Our staff works with the pharmacy to pay for the prescriptions to make sure that our patient receives what they need.

While the patient now has a 30-day supply of their medication, we want to ensure that they don’t find themselves in the same situation next month. The clinic staff will work with our patients to help enroll them in a MAP (medication assistance program) to ensure they’re medication is taken care of in the future.

In 2019, through our MAPs, we renewed 1,239 prescriptions totaling to more than $3 million! We want to keep providing our patients with the medication assistance that they need, and that’s why we need your help.

For The Big Give, consider making a gift to the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas and provide medication assistance to a person with epilepsy in our community. For more information on our medication assistance or how to make a gift, contact us at Staff@EFCST.org or (210) 653-5353.
