People Who Understand You

To be a part of a support group is to be part of a family. Support groups are an opportunity to unite with others who understand where you’re coming from and what you’re going through. Within this family, sometimes you’ll cry together, but at many times, you’ll also laugh together (a lot). With this newly found family, you’ll have love, understanding, and immeasurable support.

Support group meetings are where you can ask questions, have sincere conversations, and realize that you’re not the only one who has to endure the challenges of epilepsy. You’ll leave meetings armed with knowledge of treatment options you may not have been aware of. With every meeting, a precious gem you didn’t expect, like new friends, may fall in your lap. While it may be nerve wracking at first to share with others, support group is a safe place to talk about your journey with epilepsy.

Announcing the First RGV Support Group

The Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas operates support groups in Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, and Temple. Starting on December 20, 2018, the newest support group will be in the Rio Grande Valley, so that more voices can be heard in a fast-growing area. Individuals, families with children, parents, couples, and caregivers who yearn to share with and meet others with epilepsy are welcome to attend.

Discovering you are not alone in your fight against epilepsy will improve your quality of life. Before you go to your first support group meeting, think about issues you want to discuss. Support groups are free; expect to enjoy refreshments with your new friends. Support groups provide peer support and are a way to learn more about and take advantage of the essential services provided by the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas.
