Last week, Kimberly Martin, Epilepsy Foundation Assistant Director, attended the PCORI Annual Meeting. Kimberly attended as a PCORI Ambassador, Patient Peer Reviewer, and voice for patients living with epilepsy.
The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute funds research to help patients and caretakers make better-informed decisions about their healthcare choices. PCORI Ambassadors strive to change the culture of health research. Their goal is to make sure that patients have a voice in research that is meaningful to them. Similarly, Patient Peer Reviewers ensure patients play a significant role in the research.
Kimberly also met Epilepsy Hero and former Congressman Tony Coelho. He discussed the challenges of living with epilepsy and the need for research so those living with epilepsy can have a better quality of life. “I can’t think of a better way to start off National Epilepsy Awareness Month than with Tony Coelho, an Epilepsy Hero and a wonderful advocate,” Kimberly said.
