To spotlight the people the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas helps, check out our weekly blog called, “An Inside Look.” This week, read about what goes on to make Studio E possible for our community.

Studio E is a program that allows kids and young adults to unleash their inner “Van Gogh!” (Did you know that Van Gogh had epilepsy?)  Not only does Studio E offer a safe and nurturing environment to express creativity, but it also gives people with epilepsy a way to cope and manage stress. Studio E has always proven to be so beneficial to the participants. We love seeing them grow and create.

Due to lack of funding Studio E was in jeopardy this year.  Thanks to some creative budgeting, our fabulous Art Therapist Gabby, and help from parents, Studio E was a go!  “The only way we were able to make Studio E possible this year was because of Gabby,” explained Jessica Strom, Program Manager. “She worked within our drastically reduced budget because she too loves this program and what it does for our community.”

On top of Gabby’s willingness to work within our budget, the families of Studio E came together to provide art supplies for the program.

“We’re so thankful to the families, especially the Gray Family,” said Denise Acosta, Program Associate.  “They donated a lot of the supplies for Studio E this year.”

When Warren first came to Studio E, he was shy and reserved. By the end of the first year, he had made friends with everyone in the class. Warren truly learned to express himself. This year, there was no reluctance. Warren was animated and friendly right off the bat, talking and interacting with everyone! As a thank you, his family, along with many other Studio E families, helped to provide supplies for Studio E!

It’s this collaborative effort between EFCST Staff, Gabby, parents, and participants of Studio E that makes it special. While Gabby is the driving force, everyone plays a part in making Studio E not only successful for us, but also to the participants who benefit from working with Gabby.

This Saturday (Sep 14) is the Studio E art show, where all the participants will display their creations. Join us at Annie’s Creative Wellness Studio to see the amazing things our Studio E artists can do!
