SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas announces their tenth annual Epilepsy SuperHero Fun Run/Walk on November 3, 2018, 7:00 a.m. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. Warm up with refreshments, family-friendly activities, and vendors of interest to people affected by epilepsy. The walk will take place at Mission County Park Pavilions in San Antonio, Texas.
What is the SuperHero 5K?
Community members are invited to dress as their favorite SuperHeroes and run or walk along a three-mile or one-mile noncompetitive route at Mission County Park. Those unable to attend can register as a “virtual walker.” The walk provides social and educational opportunities for individuals with epilepsy and their family members.
Families of people with epilepsy face daunting annual medical expenses for doctor visits, medications, and diagnostic tests. Proceeds from the walk are an important source of funding for services to improve the lives of people with epilepsy. These services include: seizure clinics, support groups, community education, and youth development programs.
At the walk, strollers and leashed pets are welcome. At the park, a playground is available for children.
Increased Demand for Epilepsy Services
The Foundation is seeing an increasing demand from the community for its services. In the past year, Assistant Director Kimberly Martin said the Foundation “provided 89,344 services to 20,833 people.”
Lizzy Aranibar, Chair of the Epilepsy SuperHero Fun Walk/Run, said, “I am passionate about this cause because I know firsthand the challenges of living with epilepsy. I have my own fundraising team called Lizzy’s Legends that I am raising funds for and I want our community to join me in helping people with epilepsy live better lives.”
Individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations can form a fundraising team and set a financial goal to raise from friends and family. All proceeds from the walk will help provide essential services and programs to people living with epilepsy and their families. More than 155,000 people have epilepsy in Central and South Texas.
Seeking Sponsors
The Foundation is seeking sponsors for financial and in-kind support and volunteers on the day of the walk. Brain Sentinel is a Diamond $10,000 sponsor. Valero and Eisai are Gold $5,000 sponsors.
Visit EpilepsyRun.org for more information, to donate, and to register online. Registration starts at $20. People who register by October 20 will be guaranteed an event shirt. Online registration ends on November 2 at 4 p.m. People can register in-person on November 3 starting at 7:00 a.m.
